SANTA'S BEEN EARLY!

Fill up your stockings, we've got TWO brand new D.B. Reynolds-Moreton stories for you this week.

The Power Seeds tells the tale of a tribe, forced to collect mysterious seed pods for the priests that dominate the nearby city.

In Light Quest we follow Bort Grisling on a one way mission to investigate the source of a powerfully destructive beam of light coming from an impossible world.

We still have another story from out most prolific writer as well as two anthologies of short stories yet to come - and as always, they'll never cost you more than the price of a decent cup of coffee!

"Divergence"

Here's the latest D.B. Reynolds-Moreton book to cosy up to as Autumn draws in.

It's a tale of two friends, cast out of their society simply for asking too many questions and hoping for a better future. But, ruled by outdated beliefs, the elders take offence to such radical behaviour, and so the journey begins. Along the way, Manlen and Glen encounter pockets of society struggling to survive. Questions about their way of life haunt Manlen as they look for a better way of life.

I hardly need to tell you that this is another great story by our resident grand-master - enjoy it for the price of a cup of coffee!

Curiosity Rover Descent video by Bard Canning

I simply couldn't resist sharing this. Here's an absolutely spectacular video by Bard Canning. The clever chap has taken the stills returned from the Curiosity Rover as it hurtled towards the mysterious planet. Using interpolation to smooth the motion and a generous slab of artistry to colour correct and balance the images he's come up with a truly awe-inspiring account of the infamous seven minutes of terror. I for one was on the edge of my seat as I watched the landing live on NASA TV. Happy wanderings Curiosity.

And if, like me you love all things Martian, check out our brilliant eBook "The Martian Enigma" by D.B.Reynolds-Moreton. Just the price of a coffee. When you've done that, pop in to Bard's youtube page and show your appreciation for the video. He's got a couple of donation links there.

REVIEW - The Seed Garden * * * *

We've just landed a great review of The Seed Garden from SF Book Reviews, you can read the FOUR STAR review HERE

Grand would probably be the most fitting way to describe the plot, it feels very much like a story from the golden age of science fiction as penned by Asimov, Clarke or Heinlein perhaps.

[SFC ED] I certainly agree with this statement. D.B. Reynolds-Moreton's writing style is firmly of the old school. Whenever I get a new manuscript in (and I have THREE waiting to be published at the time of writing this), my palms sweat with anticipation. This is just like reading the great stories I used to read as a kid. Sadly, gone now are many of the grand masters of sci-fi, but here at sci-fi-cafe.com we have our very own grand master turning out modern-day classics. And all for the price of a coffee

Ant at SFBook Reviews goes on to say...

The Seed Garden is pure science fiction; grabbing a good idea and running with it, exploring the idea in detail then wrapped in a persuasive plot and driven by a stylish and absorbing character. The story then cumulates in an abrupt and yet grand, rewarding finale that will stay with you long after the book as been completed.

"Enslavement"

Another quintessential D.B. Reynolds-Moreton hot off the press for you.

Hints at something other worldly in a recently discovered journal drive two travellers across mosquito-infested jungles to a lost Mayan temple.

But it quickly becomes clear that there was more to the temple than just sacrifice and the worship of strange god-like beings.

Journey with us through not one but FIVE fascinating planets filled with mysteries and danger.

Once more, D.B. Reynolds-Moreton has crafted a thrilling and intriguing tale that captivates the imagination.

"The Search for Truth in Science."

This book is going to blow your mind! In 1969 John Callow (Now 96 years of age and still going strong!) made a startling discovery that convinced him that Einstein's theories of the laws of motion were wrong, and Newton was right.

There's some really heavy maths for those who enjoy physics; the rest of it is a really engaging read and a true eye-opener into the world of light-speed travel and quantum physics. You don't have to be a scientist to read this - but you might know a little more than THEY do after reading it!

REVIEW - The Inosculation Syndrome * * * *

A cracking review of The Inosculation Syndrome from SF Book Reviews, you can read the FOUR STAR review HERE

Another novel being published by those good people at Scifi Cafe, The Inosculation Syndrome is something of a surprise... The actual planet is reassuringly alien with some strange creatures and even stranger plants, all described in concise detail which comes across as being quite feasible; the overall feeling of being marooned on an alien planet is just great.

This theme of lone survivor having to use his intelligence and wit to survive is certainly one that has been done before but the story branches off from this around a quarter of the way through with the discovery of the Tribe. The story then takes a sharp turn and becomes one of learing who these creatures are, why they are one the planet and just how they manage to learn so fast. This turn in the tale is perfectly judged and prevents the story from becoming stale.

The Inosculation Syndrome is quite entertaining and different enough to warrant a read.

The Everlasting Beyond of Eternal Happiness

Oxford author Mike Amos takes us on a superbly witty journey that is not only hilarious, but asks some pretty hard questions about faith and the meaning of life. The fact that our hero's genitals escape and run amok on board the Europa landing craft doesn't detract from the depth of the story one little bit.

Avaialble from any good online bookstore worth their salt or buy directly from sci-fi-cafe.com

For a debut novel The Everlasting Beyond of Eternal Happiness is quite exceptional, it's funny without going too far, thoughtful without being too preachy and above all a very fine read. SFBook Reviews Read the full review...

REVIEW - Elysium Burning * * * * *

The latest review of DDD.Bryenton's EPIC post-cyberpunk novel Elysium Burning is in from SF Book Reviews, you can read the FIVE STAR review HERE

The first thing that strikes you about this book is the quality of the prose, not only is it very confident but the author clearly commands an excellent grasp of the English language, using this skill to full effect within the pages of this book. At times this sounds almost poetic and the author shows no fear in his voice or reluctance to break the rules.

I must admit that I was very impressed with this book, there are some fantastic ideas and the prose has a real eloquence that is both rare and rewarding. The vision of this post-human universe is lucid and vividly presented; all projected in a talented and confident voice.
