Book 1: Elysium Burning
By DDD Bryenton
Available from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk
The human race tore itself apart during the Age of Judgment... that's what we call the Trillion Dollar War now, in our ignorance. We unleashed enough firepower to vaporize whole nations, poisoning the Earth and grinding civilization down to the politics of muscle and steel. Dark days came. War-dog days, like some ethanol-fueled b-movie.
Then came word of the Last City. A new Elysium welded together from the carcass of our old technology. A place ruled by a god-machine named Kronos, Guardian Engine of Humanity.
Too bad that it's gone insane. Even worse that its two-thousand-year-long master program has actually come to fruition, offering a chance to remake the Earth as a paradise. What? that doesn't sound so bad?
Well, one species' paradise is another one's hell. And the experiments of Kronos have garnered a little unwanted attention, from the all-devouring metal metavirus known as the Unity. Their alien enemies are here to help us... but it's the kind of help that often ends with an autopsy.
Kaito Kayzi would be worried if he knew all this. But when your best friend is busy pharming adrenochrome from the living brains of junkies, and your next employers look like being a quasi-religious death cult, little things like the end of the world fade behind the static of the Big Weird. The sad fact is, with a new virus turning humans and machines alike into unmentionable sludge, he's the best hope we've got...
"Bryenton seizes the cyberpunk genre by the throat in this awe inspiring trilogy with a scope so vast it staggers the mind. He gives the likes of William Gibson and Ian M Banks a run for their money with the kind of writing that you just want to devour. A book so hot, you'll need to keep your Kindle in the freezer!"
Book 2: The Chains of Tartarus
By DDD Bryenton
Available from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk
Kaito Kayzi is used to weird. As a criminal hacker-savant in a city where technology is tied up with religion, 'strange' is a prerequisite. But tonight is a little different. Tonight, the weird have gone to war.
Up above, in the sterility of the upper towers, a frighteningly ambitious businessman is making his play for a lordly title... and the two-thousand-year-old terraforming engine that goes with it. In the Subcity, the crooked cop who used to hire Kaito for 'extracurricular duties' has been used as meat for a military experiment.
And his best friend, the formidable biker-gang-of-one Jaq Haszan, is acting a little funny. Perhaps it's something to do with the psycho gladiator clone who keeps trying to put a samurai sword through his head?
Any normal person would mark this one off as a bad day.
Then again, when faced with an alien virus that makes demonic possession look like the common cold, a normal person would die horribly.
A drug-fueled, railpistol-packing outlaw hacker might just live long enough to make sense of it all...
Byrenton takes the action up a level. In this book Eddie Tsien meets (and smashes) his maker, it rains blood, otherdimensional demons possess thousands of innocent people, and one main character dies...and is resurrected! As well as the usual gunfights, crazy schemes, clone deathmatches and exploding tanks - this one's so hot you're going to have to put your Kindle in the freezer!
Book 3: Soulcrusher
By DDD Bryenton
Available from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk
And so it's come to this! The apocalypse unfolds in shattered neon and bloody steel, and all that stands in its way is a crew of drug-fiends, criminals, renegades and madmen...
This time it's gonna be take no prisoners, no quarter given, and the devil will LITERALLY take the hindmost. Kaito loses his mind, but gains a few thousand megatons of nuclear firepower. Jaqub Haszan finds himself oddly attracted to the woman who's trying to kill him. And Octavio Vanecke is born again... although not in any kind of a religious sense.
By the time you turn the last page, you'll find out just how awful things can get for Technician Zhe on the worst day of his long, long life...
“(Applause). Brilliant start. Straight in, blood, brains and a mythological argument. Excellent descriptive passages and an engine full of excellent adjectives. Rain ghosted was one of my favourites, but there is so much more to this than simply great, fantastical writing. Chapter 2 begins intriguingly, technican Zhe, god-like, entering the thin bubble of our Universe no doubt. What a brilliant piece of science fiction so far, Iain M Banks better watch out, we have something grittier, dirtier and more energetic and emotionally engaging than the vulcan-like Culture. This is exactly the kind of Sci-Fi I would read, we are plunging into Carl Sagan territory here, the framework behind the Universe, the order behind events, the characterisations work strongly, bringing to life this wonderfully weird Universe.”
“brilliant first sentence and gripping, bloody opening scene – this is dark stuff, set in an extreme futuristic world you conjure up with simple, effective descriptive strokes...”
“Every paragraph is invested with vital information, effortlessly giving both background and in-the-moment action. Zhe has no choice but to carry out orders, although he shares a marked distaste for the primitives. (humans)”
“I haven't been this lost since Neuromancer!”
